Plus-size Figures Can Be Stylish
Just because you have a plus-size figure doesn't mean you have to sacrifice style. An easy way to dress up an outfit is to add a flattering jacket. This item can function in many settings from the office, a casual night out, or something more formal. The important thing is to know what works for your body type and select colors that look good on you.
The cut of a jacket is the first thing that plus size women must consider. They should stay away from short, boxy jackets. Choosing a longer jacket that just skims the hips will give them a taller, slimmer look. It's also good to select a jacket with shoulder pads as they will add to the style of the jacket while helping to balance out the overall look.
Suits with straight lines are best for plus size women who have a straight "up and down" shape. Look for longer jackets with sharp lapels and are not too cinched at the waist if possible. Plus size women with curvy shapes look best in shorter jackets with curved lapels and rounded lines along with a fitted waist. Finding a cinched jacket will accentuate the waist and minimize the stomach area.
Jackets should fall in the right place to be really flattering in your case. E.g. - should you have large bust - you may wish to avoid a jacket with a pockets on your bust line. Jackets which are cut simply with tapered waists are the best flattering cut for a plus-size girl with large bust.
Plus size women who have a larger bottom section and a small bust will find that longer jackets that just skim the hips will flatter their body shape the most. Avoiding jackets that stop at the hip will avoid drawing attention to the area that you are trying to camouflage.
Plus size women must choose their clothing with proportion in mind. For example, if a woman is 5'6", she will look taller in a longer jacket. If the woman is 4'11" though, the same jacket will cause her to look even shorter than she is and overwhelm her overall look. Here are some tips to help you choose the right plus size jacket length to complement you.
The hem of you jacket should not be at the widest part of your body. Try to go a little longer or shorter. If you jacket is long, your pants or skirt should be more narrow. Your jacket or skirt needs to be about 2/3 the length of your total outfit. Experiment and try long jackets over knee length skirts and short jackets over longer skirts.
Use scarves to add flair to your plus size jackets. A long scarf draped over the jacket will elongate your figure. Scarves draw the eye upward toward your face and are an excellent way to dress up any outfit with flair and individuality.
